The Beta You Philosophy
Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, likes to say that in Silicon Valley, there’s only one F-letter word that matters. Yes, that word does start with an ‘F’ but it isn’t four letters, and that word is “finished.”
In our working-age, he explains, if you ever think of yourself as a finished product, you’re probably finished working. And thus, Hoffman's motto is:
“Always be in beta.”
We need to always be in the state of mind of a piece of software that’s about 85% done. We need to always think of ourselves as if we need to be reengineered, retooled, relearned, retaught constantly.
